Muddy Animal Wash Sensory Activity for Spring!

I have boys, and what do boys love? MUD! So, when I was thinking of a fun spring sensory activity to engage my kids, I knew exactly what to do: a muddy animal wash sensory activity for spring!

Here’s how it went down: I grabbed two medium sized bins. In one, I filled it with an assortment of toy animals. Then, I took some mud from outside (the good, squishy kind) and liberally coated the animals with it. Yep, you heard me right – I made those animals nice and muddy!

Next up, I filled the second bin with clean, soapy water. Nothing fancy, just some water and a generous squirt of dish soap or bath soap. To complete the setup, I equipped my little ones with washcloths, a couple of old toothbrushes and an old towel we dont use anymore for drying.

And you know what? They absolutely loved it! There was something so satisfying for them about dunking those muddy animals into the soapy water and scrubbing away. It was like they were running their very own animal spa! It was warm outside so we even did it under the trampoline for shade.

Not only was it a blast for them, but it also kept them entertained for a good chunk of time. Plus, it’s a great sensory activity that helps with their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. So, if you’re looking for a fun and messy activity to do with your little ones, I highly recommend giving the muddy animal wash sensory bin a try. Just be prepared to embrace the mess – because with boys (and probably girls too!), where there’s mud, there’s bound to be mess!

Setting Up The Animal Wash Sensory Activity for Spring

You need:

– Two medium size storage bins, or sensory bins
– Toy animals
– Mud
– Soap and water
– Wash Cloths
– Old toothbrushes or scrub brushes
– Old towel for drying

Directions:

  1. Put your animals in one bin and cover with mud
  2. Put Soap or Dish soap in the second bin and run water in it to make it sudsy
  3. Put both buns on the ground with a towel next to the soapy water for drying
  4. Give your littles wash cloths and scrub brushes or old toothbrushes and let them scrub away

Its that easy! To clean up I just rinsed everything outside with the water spigot then brought it in and washed it in the sink.

Note: I did rewash the animals with dish soap after my boys were done to make sure they are good and clean before letting them play with them in the house.
