How to Make Edible Finger Paint For Babies and Toddlers
Making yogurt finger paints is incredibly simple. All you need is plain yogurt and food coloring (or natural food dyes like these). Also, if you want to try a homemade yogurt this one is great! Start by pouring a small amount of yogurt into any container that is shallow enough for your toddler’s fingers to reach in easily. I used a cupcake pan so I could mix several colors at once. If you dont have a cupcake pan you could use any small bowls you have on hand or you could use these.
Then add 2-3 drops of food coloring to the yogurt until you have reached the desired color or mix of colors. If using natural food dyes such as these or beet juice or spinach powder, add those ingredients instead. Give it a good stir so that all the colors are evenly distributed throughout the yogurt and voila! You have created your own homemade finger paint!
Just Remember your little one will have their hands in this so you dont want to add too much food coloring that will stain their little hands.
What To Do With It
Once the paint is ready, let your little one get creative! I scooped mine directly onto the highchair but you could leave it in the bowls if you choose. You can also choose if you want them to use paintbrushes or just use their fingers. My son LOVES to feel new textures and squish it in his hands but I also had a niece and nephew (twins) who hated the feeling of anything squishy on their hands when they were young. So you are welcome to customize this in any way that works best for you and your sweet littles. If you choose to finger paint, they will love getting their hands messy with these vibrant colors and exploring the different texture. If they put some in their mouth don’t worry; it’s completely safe!
