Fall Sensory Bin Ideas For Toddlers and Preschoolers

Hi Moms!
Are you looking for fun and easy activities to keep your littles ones entertained this Autumn? Well, look no further! This fall sensory bin is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers. It’s super easy to set up and can be adapted to whatever you have on hand. All you need is a plastic bin, some orange water beads, mini pumpkins (plastic or real, though they may not be able to pick up real ones with the tongs), plastic acorns, tongs, and a small bowl. Simply put all of the materials into the bin and let your little ones have at it! They’ll have so much fun using the tongs to get the acorns out of the bin and into the bowl. To Set Up Your Halloween Sensory Bin, You Will Need:

Fill a bin or container with the orange water beads and water. Let them sit overnight to absorb the water and expand. Once they are fully expanded, drain the water and add the beads back to the bin. Add in the mini pumpkins and acorns. Allow your child to use the tongs to pick up the acorns and pumpkins and put them in the bowl. The pumpkins are a little harder and heavier and my son had trouble with them but he did eventually get them and was so proud that he did.

How To Adapting The Sensory Bin For Different Ages:

If you’re looking for a way to adapt this sensory bin for different ages, here are a few ideas:

Young Toddlers (2-3 years old)

You can decrease the number of materials in the bin. Instead of using all of the materials listed above, just use the orange water beads, mini pumpkins, and tongs. This will make it easier for them to find and pick up the Pumpkins with the tongs.

Older Toddlers (3-4 years old)

You can increase the number of materials in the bin. In addition to the orange water beads, mini pumpkins, and tongs, you can also add in some plastic leaves or spider webs. This will make it more challenging for them to find and pick up all of the materials with the tongs.

Preschoolers (4-5 years old)

You can add even more materials to make it even more challenging. In addition to everything listed above, you can also add in some small toys such as plastic spiders or bugs. This will really engage their older minds as they try to figure out how to get all of the materials out of the bin with the tongs!

This is a great activity for fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. And it’s just plain old fun too! Sensory bins are always a hit in our house.
